FAQs
Will there be child care?
Yes, there will be child care provided, though you must register by April 15. Do that by noting your need on the RSVP page. Please list the names and ages of your children needing supervision. If your children are not already registered in our religious education program, we will have you fill out a basic form when you lave your children.
Are children welcome to attend the installation?
YES! Children are an important part of our shared ministry. Children are welcome in the sanctuary. Children's and youth's words will be a part of the service. We plan to have a special order of service to help little ones stay engaged with the ceremony.
How long will it be?
We are hoping to start on time, but you know how that goes. We also hope to be done by 5:30, maybe earlier. Dinner is being served afterwards, but you are free to leave when you need to.
Is there handicapped parking?
We will have a valet service so that if the handicapped accessible spots in our upper circle are taken, a valet driver will drive your car to the lower lot and at the end of the service, bring it back to you.
What about accessibility for those with mobility issues?
Our sanctuary is not fully accessible, but the back rows of chairs are. We will reserve those chairs for anyone who would like to avoid stairs. The rest of the area where the activities are taking place are on one level.
Are we supposed to bring a gift for Rev. Karen?
No. Your presence will fill her and the congregation with joy. We will be taking an offering for the Living Tradition Fund as part of the service. This is a Fund that benefits need-based scholarships for UU theological students; new minister assistance to reduce the burden of high educational debt and repayment; and grants to ministers (and their widows/widowers) for emergency assistance. What is an Installation?
An installation is a worship service to mark a shared ministry between a new minister and a congregation.
You can also think of it as a ceremony to formally recognize that a Unitarian Universalist congregation and a minister have entered into an ongoing covenantal relationship with each other.
This is a time to celebrate hopes and dreams about the ministry we have already begun and aspire to do together.
It is an expression of our shared commitment to one another and the ministry we hope to carry out together, before witnesses from our wider Unitarian Universalist and interfaith community.
And, it's a chance to hold a FABULOUS party!
